On January 15, 2025, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released guidance to agencies on implementation of the Open, Public, Electronic, and Necessary (OPEN) Government Data Act, also known as Title II of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018. OMB Memorandum M-25-05, "Phase 2 Implementation of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018: Open Data Access and Management,” outlines a systematic approach to open data that will better facilitate data access, subject to appropriate safeguards for privacy, confidentiality, and security. The guidance addresses requirements in the OPEN Government Data Act related to agency data being open by default, maintenance of agency comprehensive data inventories, dissemination of agency data via the Federal Data Catalog, maintenance of agency open data plans, and agency engagement with the public. It also provides guidance on open data access and management under the OPEN Government Data Act. https://lnkd.in/ePKcm4kH

This experience was equal parts life-changing and life-giving. Ever since, my goal has been to do my part to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality and equitable education.     I’ve had experience working in the classroom, in education research spaces, in education non-profits, and most recently in the federal government at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. 🎉 Happy sixth anniversary to the Evidence Act! Signed into law on January 14, 2019, the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018 ("Evidence Act") marked a pivotal moment in the Federal Government's dedication to evidence-based policymaking. The Act was passed around the same time the Office of Management and Budget published the Federal Data Strategy (https://lnkd.in/eugKzVZC) to fully leverage the value of federal data for mission, service, and the public good by guiding the Federal Government in practicing ethical governance, conscious design, and a learning culture. The progress made was reported in the GAO Report to Congress (https://lnkd.in/e_mh-qyy), which reviewed the Council’s activities and set forth no recommendations, demonstrating this Council’s success.
