Extending Man's Reach with UAS Technology Solutions
About us
DPI designs and builds custom UAS solutions for our customers. Our product lines span between free-flight tandem UAS, and tethered UAS. Tandem UAS provide high capacity cargo/logistics. Tethered UAS do not need a battery, and thus can fly indefinitely. Tethered UAS provide ISR, communications, and video for the military and security services.

It was a beautiful day to perform LANTERN's Scout Mission testing! With its Scout Mission capability, LANTERN can disconnect from the tether at the press of a button, fly untethered beyond the launch point for up to 5 minutes, and then return to automatically reconnect. It immediately resumes long-endurance tethered operations. No manual intervention required. Persistent by design, untethered when the mission calls for it. Excited to be part of Navy STP! Our UMAR system is currently being advanced under a Navy SBIR Phase II contract. The system lifts shipboard radios to 500 feet, extending range by 3x or more while maintaining continuous power and control through its tether. Huge thanks to the DPI staff and Navy partners working together to deliver reliable, autonomous aerial relay capabilities to the fleet. Learn more about UMAR: https://lnkd.in/eKvg9NmG

@DPI-UAV It’s Air Platforms Week! Dragonfly Pictures, Inc, is on a current Navy SBIR Phase II contract to provide innovative new technology to the warfighter! U.S. Defense Industry Primes and DoD Government Program Offices … leverage the development already completed on SBIR projects to accelerate innovative technology and advanced capabilities to the warfighter! Dragonfly Pictures, Inc., Essington, PA: Title: Real-Time Sensor Data Processing and Compression Performed On-board Unmanned Multirotor Aerial Relay (UMAR); SBIR Topic AF131-132. Overview: The Unmanned Multirotor Aerial Relay (UMAR) is a tethered multirotor that lifts maritime communication radios to 500 feet in altitude. UMAR has proved range extension to 3X+ the traditional means. The tether acts as an extension cord to the ship to provide continuous power, communication, command, and control to the Unmanned Aerial System. UMAR has a basic feature set to fly completely autonomously and does not need continuous operator input. The focus of this research effort is to increase autonomy, functionality, and reliability through testing. Finally, the system may be tested on a US Navy ship, such as the Littoral Combat Ship. Follow Dragonfly Pictures, Inc., on LinkedIn at: https://lnkd.in/gGvujTnz Navy STP will highlight participating small businesses in this year’s Cohort. This small business is on a current US Navy SBIR Phase II contract developing innovative technology to meet a Navy-need. A perfect example of how, in certain scenarios, TeUAS offers a more efficient and reliable solution by reducing operational burdens without sacrificing capability. #DefenseTechnology #TetheredDrones #DroneTechnology
🤩 The US Navy has introduced a tethered capability to accelerate experiments for tactical unmanned aerial vehicles. Called the Tethered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Experimentation Payload System (TULEPS), the solution supports the evaluation of drone software and mission equipment under real-world conditions. The TULEPS is supervised by the St. Inigoes-headquartered Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), which oversees assessment, laboratory operations, maintenance, and research for US Navy and Marine Corps aviation assets. “When we test payloads on specific UAVs, it requires significant money, time and effort because of the limitations of the UAV – TULEPS is an innovative resource that allows us to focus first on the development of the actual payload technology,” NAWCAD Lead Experimentation Engineer James Tomasic stated. The launch of the TULEPS was made possible by NAWCAD’s Experimentation Office in partnership with Pennsylvania-based tethered drone solutions manufacturer DPI UAV Systems.
