  • Last week, DIA Director Lt. Gen. Jeff Kruse hosted the Senior Military Intelligence Officers Conference, an annual forum that brings together senior defense and intelligence leaders to discuss cross-cutting intelligence challenges and to develop solutions for improving support to joint operations, warfighter readiness, and national security decision-making. With participation from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, service intelligence chiefs, and senior leaders from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, combatant command J2s, and Five Eyes community, the panel discussions focused on synchronizing and integrating IC capabilities to advance mission priorities.

  • Last week, Lt. Gen. Patrick Hughes, DIA Director from 1996-1999, was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. All of us at DIA mourn his passing and celebrate his remarkable life of service. In 2023, we had the honor of interviewing Hughes about his 35+ years of service to the Nation. Over the course of his career, one principle remained constant — his dedication to the people who carry out the mission. "I cared about — and indeed still do — the people who...served the country day in and day out. I wasn't an easy guy, I know that, but I wasn't supposed to be.” Hughes enlisted in the Army in 1962 and transferred from Infantry to Military Intelligence in 1970. His extensive experience in MI positioned him to bring innovations to DIA and refocus defense all-source intelligence production, collection, and systems integration. During his tenure, the Agency broke ground for the Missile and Space Intelligence Center in Alabama, and the Defense Attaché Service established new offices in Cambodia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Latvia, Rwanda and Slovenia. With Lt. Gen. Hughes at the helm, the Agency earned two Joint Meritorious Unit Awards. Learn more about Hughes' career and achievements: https://lnkd.in/ehhBvSs2
