I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible Department Heads who serve the City of Manitowoc. These individuals work tirelessly behind the scenes every day to keep our city running smoothly, solve problems big and small, and ensure that our community continues to thrive. Their dedication, professionalism, and care for our residents are unmatched. As Mayor, I’m proud to be part of this team. It’s an honor to work alongside people who are not only experts in their fields but who also genuinely love this city and its people. It takes a team to accomplish all the great things happening in Manitowoc. And we have a great one. The New Bayshore Trail is OPEN! The old Elks Club property on the city's northeast side has been revitalized. In addition to all the private development, the property owners donated 10+ acres to the City of Manitowoc for trails and public amenities along the Little Manitowoc River. We received a $369,400 grant from the State of Wisconsin Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program, to which the West Foundation added another $100,000. The remainder came from the TIF District, which supports the remaining development on the site. Vinton Construction was the primary contractor, and Hubbard Electric added all the lighting along the trail. The trail includes public paved trails, lighting, a future kayak launch, areas for fishing, benches, and the new bridge connecting the trail to the Manitowoc Lincoln Park Zoo! The goal has always been to get people from the Mariners Trail to Lincoln Park. Now they can! A beautiful addition to our community! Enjoy!

Thank you to Shady Lane for the "Salute to Service" banner program they began! The Salute to Service Banner Program honors veterans, both living and deceased, and active-duty members of the Armed Forces from Manitowoc. Each banner features the individual’s photo, name, branch of service and/or credentials. Sponsored by companies, organizations and families, the banners will be displayed on light poles and utility poles from Shady Lane, Inc. to Red Arrow Park in Manitowoc. We at the City of Manitowoc and Manitowoc Public Utilities were thrilled to work with them to get them up on utility poles. Complete information and an application can be found at https://lnkd.in/gGhG4U98

Thank you, Manitowoc! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for entrusting me to serve another term as your mayor. I am excited to continue our great work! Thank you to everyone who went out and voted. We had a huge voter turnout yesterday, the largest I have ever seen in all my elections. Great job! Thank you to my family and friends for your support and love. I could not do this at all without you. Thank you to my supporters. Your trust in me is the greatest thing I carry each and every day. I won't let you down. To those who didn't vote for me - I won't dismiss you. Please continue to reach out to me and help guide me in my decisions. It's all about Manitowoc now - and everyone has a say. Thank you to Jason for giving the voters a choice. Running for office isn't easy, but those willing to try deserve much credit. I hope to continue seeing his positive work throughout the community. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Manitowoc's best days are ahead of us. Now, let's get to work. -Justin

  • Mayor Justin Nickels Update on the Mid-Cities Mall Site Asbestos is 100% removed from the buildings. Crews are mobilizing today to begin ripping up all the parking lots. Demolition crews will start mobilizing later next week to start demolishing the building. Lots of activity will be happening on the site throughout the month of October. We should see a completely cleared and clean site in November. Tycore Built, who will be developing the site once it is cleaned up, has launched a new website to promote home sales and share what they will be doing on the site. You can view that website here: https://lnkd.in/gNUA6WH7
