Sitting in the middle of a critical #wildlife linkage connecting inland Sierra Madre Mountains to the Santa Monica Mountains & the Pacific Coast, #SSFL is home to a number of endangered plant species & abundant wildlife (deer, bobcats, coyotes, cougars, etc.) and 100+ species of #birds! 🐦🦉🐣 We are committed to protecting ALL #Californians from toxic harm. This year, we’re proud to highlight the Nellie Hannon Gateway project in #Emeryville: a former food bank site reimagined as affordable housing that will continue to serve the community’s needs through the expansion of the food bank on the first floor. See the "before photo," and a digital rendering of the final project, which is expected to be completed in May 2025.🥳 This transformation is made possible through the Equitable Community Revitalization Grant (#ECRG), a #DTSC program that funds the environmental work for projects like this one, supporting environmental cleanup & redevelopment to provide underserved communities with safe spaces to live, work and thrive. 🙌 The site is named in honor of Nellie Hannon, a local activist who dedicated her life to helping those in need. This project not only continues her legacy of community support but also exemplifies ECRG’s mission to turn environmentally impacted sites into community assets. By addressing contamination, affordable housing, and essential resources, this initiative ensures that everyone has access to the basic rights of housing, food, and a safe place to live. 🏡 #DTSCcleansUpCalifornia
