Congratulations to our Chair E. Joaquin Esquivel and board member Nichole Morgan for being reappointed to the State Water Resources Control Board! 🎉 https://lnkd.in/gqDf3UtA
In 1991, California's environmental authority was unified in a single Cabinet level agency—the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA). Our mission is to restore, protect and enhance the environment, to ensure public health, environmental quality and economic vitality. We fulfill our mission by developing, implementing and enforcing the state's environmental protection laws that regulate clean air, clean water, clean soil, safe pesticides and waste recycling and reduction. Our departments are at the forefront of environmental science, using cutting-edge research to shape the state's environmental laws. The Office of the Secretary heads CalEPA and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of one office, two boards, and three departments dedicated to improving California’s environment: Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Air Resources Board State Water Resources Control Board Department of Pesticide Regulation Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery Department of Toxic Substances Control

This year, we’re proud to highlight the Nellie Hannon Gateway project in #Emeryville: a former food bank site reimagined as affordable housing that will continue to serve the community’s needs through the expansion of the food bank on the first floor. See the "before photo," and a digital rendering of the final project, which is expected to be completed in May 2025.🥳 This transformation is made possible through the Equitable Community Revitalization Grant (#ECRG), a #DTSC program that funds the environmental work for projects like this one, supporting environmental cleanup & redevelopment to provide underserved communities with safe spaces to live, work and thrive. 🙌 The site is named in honor of Nellie Hannon, a local activist who dedicated her life to helping those in need. This project not only continues her legacy of community support but also exemplifies ECRG’s mission to turn environmentally impacted sites into community assets. By addressing contamination, affordable housing, and essential resources, this initiative ensures that everyone has access to the basic rights of housing, food, and a safe place to live. 🏡 #DTSCcleansUpCalifornia

For 25 years, the Carl Moyer Program has given early adopters a boost to promote #CleanTechnology like marine vessels, trucks, tractors, and other equipment. By incentivizing the switch – before a regulation required it – the program has reduced pollution & increased innovation.

Tune in to hear U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission's Sally Spener discuss the new $4.7 million Tijuana River Channel trash booms pilot project, which aims to intercept debris that flows from Mexico into the Tijuana River, clogging the channel and contributing to chronic water quality problems. Last week, we joined California, federal, international and nonprofit representatives near the border to celebrate the project, which was funded by the State Water Board. The pilot project will run for the next two consecutive storm seasons and is made partially of recycled material.
