Ruth Melendez of Colorado is Alzheimer’s Impact Movement’s [tag] (AIM) September Advocate of the Month! After 35 years of marriage and raising two children together, Ruth became her husband David’s primary caregiver while he lived with Alzheimer’s. After David’s passing, Ruth decided to take action and encouraged her kids to do the same. “We have to do something to fight this disease. We’ve always been a family of fighters…It’s going to be part of his legacy.” Today, Ruth and her family share their story to advocate for families like theirs. Over the last three years, she attended the AIM Advocacy Forum in Washington, D.C. along with her local state advocacy days, and she rallied for CMS to cover FDA-approved Alzheimer’s treatments. Additionally, her powerful voice convinced Rep. Doug Lamborn (CO-5) to cosponsor the Alzheimer’s Accountability and Investment Act and the BOLD Reauthorization Act, which were both signed into law last year. Join us in celebrating Ruth’s commitment to the fight to #ENDALZ, and read more of her story ➡️ bit.ly/4mSy92Z

On International Country Music Day, we honor the power of storytelling through song. Few songs embody that spirit more than #MusicMoments artist Brett Eldredge’s “Raymond,” which tells the story of a man’s special bond with a woman living with Alzheimer’s who mistakes him for her son Raymond. Brett wrote “Raymond” in honor of his late grandmother as a way to make sense of his feelings about her advancing battle with Alzheimer’s. “This is somebody that knew everything about me her entire life. I chased that emotion down and I wrote, and tried to work through it and cope with it that way.” The message behind “Raymond” is one of love, kindness and compassion — especially for caregivers. “They’re angels,” Brett says, recognizing the tireless devotion of those who care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association, Brett re-recorded “Raymond” for our Music Moments campaign — a collection of songs that celebrate the deep connection between music and the memories we never want to lose. 💜 https://lnkd.in/emPdKEq8

For Dr. Liliana Ramírez Gómez, the fight against Alzheimer’s disease is deeply personal. Several of her own family members have been diagnosed with the disease. As a researcher her “personal connection fuels my passion and deepens my commitment to finding answers.” Dr. Ramírez Gómez began her journey in Medellín, Colombia, where she earned her medical degree from the University of Antioquia. It was in those early days that she encountered families affected by early-onset Alzheimer’s — often across multiple generations. “That experience changed the course of my career,” she recalls. “It opened my eyes to the devastating consequences of this disease, not just for the person living with dementia but also for the entire family and community around them.” Since then, Dr. Ramírez Gómez has dedicated her life to behavioral neurology, providing compassionate care to patients and relentlessly pursuing research that brings us closer to a cure. Her work is driven by the extraordinary resilience she sees in caregivers and families every day. Being an #ALZFunded researcher, Dr. Ramírez Gómez believes she is “part of something bigger than myself. It means hope, collaboration, and the unwavering belief that together, we can make a difference in the lives of millions of individuals and their families.” We are thankful for Dr. Ramírez Gómez and her contributions to Alzheimer’s research. Her story is a testament to the power of personal connection, scientific dedication and the belief that, together, we will end this disease. #HispanicHeritageMonth

Happy #NationalVideoGamesDay to all of the gamers out there who are fighting (and racing, and flying, and playing) to #ENDALZ! Today, we're spotlighting lifelong gamer and gaming champ Chris Chike. After setting multiple world records, Chris, whose grandfather passed away from Alzheimer's disease in 2019, joined forces with his friend Omid to create a yearly stream dedicated to raising funds and awareness to support the work of the Alzheimer's Association. This year, they completed their 4th annual DDR livestream fundraiser, raising over $4,100. Our thanks and congratulations go out to Chris, Omid and the DDR Charity Stream Team — your skills are unbelievable! You can Do What You Love to End ALZ, too, whatever your passion may be! “I am here to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, an amazing group I have been working with for 30 years. I had family affected by the disease, and I know how good the Association is at advancing research and taking care of people." We're live at Cantor Fitzgerald's Charity Day with #ENDALZ Celebrity Champion David Hyde Pierce to honor those lost on September 11, including "Frasier" co-creator David Angell and David's wife Lynn. "To have this opportunity to remember those we lost and memorialize them — to turn such a dark day into something so positive — is a gift.” #CFCharityDay
