Bringing Agency—so companies move fast, stay small & win big.

WE ARE NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS! Today, Agency is announcing our $20M Series A and publicly launching Kai. Led by Menlo Ventures, with Sequoia Capital, Felicis Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, Databricks Ventures and many more supporters and friends. I've spent decades building companies where customer success was central to growth. Every time, we scaled headcount to scale relationships. And every time, it eventually broke. We were throwing more people at the problem and getting worse results. That's why we built Kai — an autonomous AI co-worker that knows every customer, acts instantly, and never drops the ball. Not a tool you have to manage. A teammate that operates across your entire customer base. The future of customer success isn't more people doing the same work. It's one co-worker doing it better. And Kai is the best. If you're scaling with lean teams, I'd love to work with you: elias@agency.inc Thanks Allie Garfinkle at Fortune for the story. Link in comments.

People trust Tesla to drive their family at 75 MPH on self drive. But they won't let AI send an email to their customers. It's crazy. You'll bet your life on autopilot, but an automated follow-up? "Let me review that first." We're treating AI like an assisstant we don't trust instead of something that could actually do the work and free up our time. We are our own biggest barrier to AI adoption. Not the technology. Us. I promise if you send me an AI-generated email, I won't care. I'll get the message. Stop micromanaging the AI. Let it do the work. Go build something that matters instead.

Every time I onboard a new user or customer into Agency I present them with one button. The button says: would you like to make all customer communications public to everyone in the company? The responses to this question are everything you can imagine: "Wait, even my emails?" "Does that include Slack DMs?" "What about when I'm venting to my CSM?" "Can I exclude certain people?" "This is either genius or terrifying" "Our legal team will have a heart attack" "Finally! I'm tired of playing telephone" People are still freaked out when our recorder joins a call and they weren't expecting it. I'm sorry to break it to you but it's 2025. Everything is being recorded everywhere. We're living in a world of radical transparency whether we like it or not. The worst part is that customers get pushback from team members because Agency can see everything if allowed and this is unnerving to some. For example, Agency AI sent me a customer health alert that my stakeholder had gone silent after I didn't deliver what was promised in the call. My whole team could see that alert in the main channel. There's no place to hide and that's not good for some, but it's great for the customer. It's great for the company. Are you ready for this new world?

Everyone's building the same three AI products. AI SDR. AI meeting notes. AI chatbot. 10,000 startups. 3 ideas. Zero taste. I see pitch decks every week. "We're like Gong but with AI." "We're Salesforce with a chatbot." "We're the AI version of [insert any SaaS tool]." Last week, a customer asked me for call recording features. I told him straight up: "I am NOT a call recorder. You are offending me with these questions. I'm here to serve your customers." He looked confused. Like I'd just told him I don't believe in gravity. That's the problem. We're so obsessed with making AI do what humans used to do, we forgot to imagine what it could do that humans never could. Take customer success. Everyone's racing to build AI that writes better follow-up emails. But what if the problem isn't the email quality? What if it's that we're sending emails at all? What if instead of 10 touchpoints over 3 months, you could have one perfect interaction at exactly the right moment? What if instead of quarterly business reviews, you had continuous intelligence flowing between you and your customer? What if instead of "scaling" customer success, we reimagined it entirely? This is what taste looks like in the AI era. Not copying what exists and adding a chatbot. But questioning every assumption about how business works. The winners won't be the ones who build AI versions of old software. They'll be the ones who use AI to build things that were never possible before. That's the difference between following and leading. Between copying and creating. Between having taste and having none. Stop building better note-takers. Start building better businesses.

Everyone's talking about AGI, chasing AGI. I'm not. Don't get me wrong—I believe it's coming. But while everyone's waiting for the magic moment when one system can do everything, I'm building something that works today. The dream of AGI has people thinking backwards. They want to build one massive system that can be fine-tuned for any industry, any problem, any customer. That's exactly the wrong approach. At Agency, we're starting narrow. B2B customer success. High-touch and digital. We're getting it working for 10 companies, then 100, then seeing what actually generalizes. Here's what I've learned after 20+ years of building: specificity wins. The companies that try to solve everything for everyone end up solving nothing for no one. They get lost in the complexity of trying to be all things to all people. Meanwhile, the companies that pick their customers wisely and solve their specific problems deeply—those are the ones that build lasting value. AGI will happen when it happens. But the businesses winning today aren't waiting for it. They're building focused solutions that work right now for real customers with real problems. Pick your lane. Go deep. Win there first. The rest will follow. Enjoy a clip from me saying pretty much nothing now that I listened to it. 🤣

Humans are going to be the biggest roadblock in the adoption of AI. Until we see it in front of us, we don’t believe it works. Even when we do see it—we still don’t fully believe it. There’s a massive mental barrier. Most people just aren’t ready. That’s something builders need to understand. You’re not just building software. You’re educating people and guiding a total mindset shift. That’s the hard part. It’s not just product development. It’s human evolution. Clip from my episode on Manny's podcast last week.

Your first customer got white-glove service. Your 500th got a sequence of automated emails. The truth? Most companies lose the personal touch the minute they scale.  But your customers don’t want a sequence—they want a relationship. Agency gives you the customer brain: every interaction, every data point, every signal—tracked, remembered, and acted on. So every customer still feels like your first. https://agency.inc/

Everyone says they are “customer-obsessed.” But if you’re sending the same check-in email to every account, you’re not obsessed—you’re overwhelmed. Agency is built to scale personalized service. Our AI studies every customer interaction, surfaces exactly what matters, and acts on your behalf—writing emails, prepping meetings, flagging risks. This isn’t another tool. It’s a new operating model.
