Tammer Farid’s Summary

B.A. in chemistry (DePauw '02), currently pursuing a Ph.D. in biophysics and biochemistry. My interests center on oxidoreductase function and light energy capture. These processes are studied in synthetic (non-biological) proteins, which could potentially be developed for eventual use as an inexpensive solar energy conversion material.

Before graduate school, I spent two years teaching middle school science through Teach for America and have been a TA for graduate courses. I would like to continue teaching in some capacity throughout my career.

Techniques and skills:
*General molecular biology techniques, including cloning, mutagenesis, PCR, and protein expression and purification from bacteria
*Solid-phase peptide synthesis
*Optical spectroscopy (UV/Vis, CD, IR)
*Chromatography
*Mass spectrometry
