A few words on my experience: studied international law, one year in the French army (compulsory at the time), wrote books on windsurfing and taught windsurfing in the West Indies, dove for Spanish shipwrecks in the Caicos Bank (not a financial institution, see below), launched windsurfing schools in Southampton (NY), wrote for several publications in the US, launched the first local newspaper in Saint-Barth's FWI, did some sailboat deliveries and ocean racing, became a publishing consultant, back to France I became publication manager for the international publications of the Paris stock exchange, and for Trader Online (online trading magazine), then became "consultant".
I find this word really funny since most of the advice organizations are looking for could be provided by any bona fide grandma. In truth, consulting is not about giving advice, at least in my line of work, but about helping people find their own solutions. What I do is bring are simple tools to companies who want to change. The "want" is an interesting layer cake, a fine balance between motivation and multiple types of brakes.
Also previously yoga instructor (NY), six years of training in emotional stress management.
Many people become unconfortable with such diverse experience. Some people understand that this brings a lot of opportunities. Your choice.

I like the "alternative medicine". I chose it by chance. The list of industries is way too long and much too impersonnal. After reflecting on this, "alternative medicine" sounds quite well in my line of work: I help people and organisations stay or get well. It's alternative in so far as there is no physical contact and I do not give any prescriptions.
