Shazna Nessa's Summary

I have built and led large teams at the intersection of storytelling, technology and design, layered with product development and business leadership. My work has always involved experimentation and innovation and I love the space where one discipline bleeds into another.

I recently completed a Knight journalism fellowship at Stanford, where I spent 10 months in a highly entrepreneurial environment. My challenge focused on using human-centered design principles in storytelling with data visualization work.

Before that I was a deputy managing editor at the Associated Press in New York, where I spent five years establishing AP’s interactive, social media, mobile and data journalism presence. I created and led an award-winning global department that produced interactive news experiences, including the development of two data journalism tools funded by the Knight Foundation’s news innovation grants. I also devised and taught the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism’s first ever design course.
