Rosa Uribe's Experience

Postdoctoral Research Scientist

California Institute of Technology

Educational Institution; 1001-5000 employees; Research industry

September 2012Present (2 years 1 month)

Using molecular, cellular and genetic methods, I study early development of the enteric nervous system in zebrafish embryos. The enteric nervous system is largely derived from neural crest cells, a migratory population of stem cells that orginate from the very early brain. Neural crest cells migrate to the primitive gut and crawl along it's length in order to become neurons that control gastrointestinal function. I hope to expand our knowledge of the genetic and cellular mechanisms that regulate their decision to become part of the enteric nervous system.

Graduate Research Fellow

The University of Texas at Austin

Educational Institution; 10,001+ employees; Higher Education industry

May 2007August 2012 (5 years 4 months)

Investigated the functional role of the protein Id2a in regulating retinal growth and neurogenesis in zebrafish embryos. Using loss of function and overexpression analyses, discovered that Id2a plays a key role in regulating the transition from retinal progenitor cell to differentiated neuron or glial cell within the developing retina.

Graduate Teaching Assistant

The University of Texas at Austin

Educational Institution; 10,001+ employees; Higher Education industry

January 2008June 2008 (6 months)

Teaching Assistant for Introductory Biology I, focusing on biological energy transformation, cell structure and physiology, and gene expression.

Undergraduate Researcher

San Francisco State University

Educational Institution; 1001-5000 employees; Higher Education industry

March 2004June 2006 (2 years 4 months) San Francisco

Utilized genetic and molecular biology techniques to investigate the role of lipid modifications on the localization of Hedgehog protein in the developing wing of the fruit fly.

Undergraduate Researcher

UCSF

June 2005August 2005 (3 months) San Francisco Bay Area

In the laboratory of Dr. Cynthia Kenyon, investigated the role of mitochondrial respiration and its effect on lifespan in nematodes.

Educational Institution; 1001-5000 employees; Higher Education industry

September 1999September 2001 (2 years 1 month) San Francisco Bay Area
