January 1996 — January 2006 (10 years 1 month)
I administered State Farm Payment Plan billing accounts in a fast paced, heavy workload, multi-task environment. I created a positive image of State Farm, and the payment plan, through skilled communications and relationship building. I led meetings with cross-functional groups including policyholders, the agency force, underwriting divisions, general partners, mortgage companies, banks, claims representatives, and other payment plan account representatives; working collaboratively to build trust even when outcomes were different than the client anticipated. I was responsible for reading, interpreting, explaining and applying state and federal law relevant to billing situations in a manner that would satisfy review by the SEC.
I traveled region-wide to lead and facilitate planning with the agency force. My technical expertise and my communications skills led State Farm to name me as a mentor/trainer for new employees across the United States. My skills with computer hardware and software led management to name me a "power user" and I was tasked with preparing and implementing a department specific lesson plan for training experienced account representatives on new releases.
I was often named a team member on key committees and special projects. I was selected to serve on the company's Legislative Action Council (the steering committee for the Legislative Action Network). In that capacity I was part of an elite team that helped plan and execute State Farm's grassroots political agenda. I was also selected to serve on the Transition Committee, charged with managing the closure of the Salem Operations Center. Our mission was to maintain morale for more than 200 employees while delivering an unexcelled level of service in extremely difficult circumstances. I helped organize research and employee outreach, and then tailored the results of that research into specific policies implemented during the last year of the office's operation.

Was part of station management, determining marketing and promotion and was the principle media contact; responsible for developing media strategy and direct communication with media representatives.

January 1994 — January 1995 (1 year 1 month)
I supervised the conceptualization, writing, editing and presentation of news in a news/talk format. I hosted the "Morning Report," a three hour news/information radio show. One of my main responsibilities was to act as station liaison with listeners and local media; responding to media inquiries regarding new policy, programming, promotions and various aspects of operations. I built strong working relationships with policymakers, community leaders, business leaders, activists and others for the purposes of facilitating and managing a comprehensive and accurate news department.
I was part of the team evaluating research data for the purposes of determining station broadcast content, media positioning and promotions. I collaborated in the planning and execution of public outreach through various station promotions including, but not limited to: media communication, public events, promotional brochures, and public service announcements and campaigns. I served as Grand Marshall of the Gervais Parade, and assisted with the planning and execution of State Fair promotions. I wrote and executed non-profit media campaigns for various service organizations including an anti-drug campaign that involved the Portland Trail Blazers.
I trained the leadership of non-profit organizations on media access through a series of symposiums sponsored by the Statesman Journal and, on two occasions, was invited to "guest lecture" young state agency executives on news media relations. About my performance, organizer Jim Sellers wrote, "I wished that I'd had a recorder running. You said so many on-point things, with such passion and humor, that I wanted to be able to share it with more people." I supervised a four person news staff and was responsible for hiring, training, promotion, and discipline.

January 1989 — January 1994 (5 years 1 month)
I supervised the conceptualization, research, field research, writing, editing and presenting of news in a country format. I supervised a four and 1/2 person news department. I hired, assigned and evaluated work, promoted and disciplined-up to and including termination. I was the principal architect of KWJJ's weekly public information program and it's daily Farm Report (both solid commercial successes). The Farm Report, in particular, was one of the most advertising intensive segments of the broadcast day and one of the stations top revenue winners. During my tenure the station rose from 24th in the market to 5th. I was twice honored by the Associated Press for news writing.
I acted as the station liaison with listeners and local media by responding to media inquiries regarding news policy, programming, station promotional events and elements of station operation. To accomplish these objectives, I built strong working relationships with policymakers, community leaders, business leaders, activists and others for the purpose of managing a comprehensive and accurate news department.
I was part of the team evaluating research data for the purposes of determining station broadcast content, media positioning, and promotions. Further, I assisted in the planning and execution of public outreach through various station promotions including, but not limited to: media communication, public events, promotional brochures, and public service announcements and campaigns. I participated on the team developing strategies to keep KWJJ a market leader.
I was responsible for understanding federal law relating to the "fairness doctrine" and for developing and maintaining the "public ascertainment file" of records to document compliance.
