Robin Cross' Experience

Chief Engineer

Public Company; 11-50 employees; Media Production industry

January 2004Present (10 years 10 months)

KCUR is the NPR affiliate for Kansas City. It is part of University of Missouri at Kansas City. As Chief Engineer, I maintain and oversee all technical aspects of the FM Radio Station. I envision the future of how new technologies can be used or adapted for the Station. Understanding how colleagues use facilities and work with them so that their creativity can blossom without being hindered by technical irregularities are among my goals.

Staff Engineering Advisor

April 1989December 1998 (9 years 9 months)

I was the Staff Advisor to the Student Radio Station at Northern Illinois University.

Chief Engineer

19891997 (8 years)

WNIU - WNIJ are the FM Radio Stations for DeKalb-Rockford, IL. They are the Stations for Northern Illinois University. Just after joining WNIU, we received the FCC Construction Permit for another FM Station which was to become WNIJ (at that time). I had already started overseeing the Broadcast side of new 17,000 square foot facility when I built WNIJ. I designed the Studios from the ground up. I remember thinking that I needed to make sure that it would still be usable after 20 or 30 years. After completing the DeKalb Studios, I immediately started construction on the Rockford, IL Studios for NIRIS (a reading service for the blind) and WNIJ which was licensed to Rockford. After completion of the all new Studios I then started the planning needed to add 3 more stations so that it would become a network of stations. Another new challenge lured me to leave DeKalb.
