Robert Tinker's Summary
From 1990 to 2001 I explored every career option open to me. In the following order:
1990, I ended 13 years with Jefferson County Government. The last 10 years I worked as a Program Leader with the Jefferson County Youth Center.
I then worked as the Counselor II with Westport Group Home.
Followed by working as the Social Worker Supervisor/Manager at the Winter Group Home.
Next I was the Social Worker Supervisor for the Home of the Innocents Adolescence Shelter.
A stint with Seven Counties as a mental Health Counselor/therapist followed.
The job that defined me was next. Coordinator/Manager of the Neighborhood Youth Boards directed by L. Rippy.
Followed by Education Talent Search Counselor with Kentuckiana College Access Center.
I then worked for Project Empower and the LYON Program as the Lead Career Agent.
In 2002 I came home to Lynn Rippy and YouthBuild Louisville as Counselor, CM, and Leadership Dev.
My duties vary but I take pride in helping young adults start their change in life through higher education.
I am commited to developing a culture of change in young adults in Louisville through education, personal development, and self actualization. Since 2000 I have been blessed to be instrumental in helping over 400 young people enroll in post secondary education while employed at the Kentuckiana College Access Center, Project Empower, and YouthBuild Louisville.
In 2011 students at YouthBuild received $174,000 in financial aid, grants, and scholarships.
Change is an action and happens only through effort. Change can be encourage but starts within. Without the recipient wanting it and working for it...there will be no change.
How do you change a community? By changing its citizen and by voting. YBL registers about 25 students a year to vote and encourages them to register their peers and others as well. We don't try to influence how they vote, we just try to influence them to vote every time the polls open. YBL votes.
