Chaired the Organising Committee for the EAF Conference in Birmingham 2005.

I also did the opening and closing speech for the Conference. Over 300 delegates from 33 different countries attended and a profit was made for the IOM³. In 2005 my contribution to the secondary processing of steel was recognised with the presentation of the Sidney Gilchrist Thomas Medal by the IOM³ prior to the presentation I chaired a Masterclass for younger members of the Institute.

In summary I have spent my entire career associated with the steel industry. I have an extensive technical knowledge of steelmaking processes and the current hot topics e.g. radiation (orphan sources) detection, energy costs and environmental issues. Through my work for UK Steels the IOM³ and my career profile I have knowledge and contacts in all the major electric steelmaking plants in the UK. I still have a desire to contribute to the industry and to continue working in some capacity that I could apply the knowledge gained over my career.
