Robert Kay is a Co-founder of Incept Labs, a company focused on strategic innovation and commercialisation services. A Director of Capital C Consulting, a network based consultancy providing risk and financial services advice to Government and industry, and an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Prior to his current roles, Robert’s career has moved between both industry and academia. He was formerly the Head of Strategic Innovation at Westpac Banking Corporation, where he was responsible for the development of the methodological dimensions of the Westpac innovation framework. This included the establishment of governance, remuneration and commercialisation frameworks to support both incremental and strategic innovation. This role also included extensive work on the development of methodologies for sensing and building resilience against strategic risks.
He has held senior academic positions at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and the International Graduate School of Management, University of South Australia, including teaching in Taiwan and Hong Kong. He is also a member of the University of New South Wales, Department of Information Systems Industry Advisory Committee. He has worked for Lend Lease Corporation in various research and analysis capacities related to organisational change and IT strategy.
Robert has published over 100 refereed articles in books, journals and conference proceedings, covering organisational development, complex adaptive systems, strategic risk and innovation. He holds a 1st Class Honours Degree in systemic approaches to education, and a PhD on biological and complex adaptive systems approaches to organisational learning and resilience.
