System Architect at Online Talent Manager
Breda Area, Netherlands
I remember a guest speaker coming to my 5th grade class in Altus Oklahoma. The man told us that we would spend our whole lives learning new things, that the end of school did not mean the end of education. Those words were a bit discouraging to a 10 year old, but I have lived the truth of them. I like to think of my professional life as a series of learning experiences.
-As a DJ on the radio, I learned how to speak extemporaneously and clearly.
-As a phone support operator, I learned to explain things clearly to non-technical people and discovered how frustrating poor design can be to end customers.
-As a technical support person at a major bank, I learned how large companies function and how to plan and order large projects.
-As the web developer at a magazine publisher, I learned how to create useful and intuitive programs.
My current position as system architect for a psychological talent management system has required all of these learned skills. My long term goal is to continue to explore the possibilities inherent in personality matching, testing, and evaluation in the work place.
Ability to put myself into the customer's position and create programs that are intuitive and helpful. I program in Perl and use Open Source products whenever possible.
Synergy - connecting the dots - Surprise.

System architect. I work with customers to develop new products and explore possibilities. I program and work with other programmers and designers to put it all together. I am responsible for imagining the future, what products are possible/feasible/marketable. My education in engineering keeps me practical, my experience on the front line of support keeps me focussed on customer needs, and my curiosity keeps me exploring.
