Engineering Specialist - Drilling Fluids (Mud Engineer)

My profession is the building, testing and maintenance of drilling "mud" as used on drilling rigs carrying out their function of exploring for oil and gas. The drilling mud requires very specific chemical and physical properties. It is my responsibility to regularly analyze the mud, report the findings and recommend treatments, both physical and chemical, to maintain those critical properties.


•As an employee for 9 years with Texaco's New Iberia Louisiana District Office:
•Field supervised well-site drilling fluid operations at an average of 11 drilling projects per year working a 7 and 7 schedule.
•Supervised and administered drilling fluid project budgets from $10k to $1.5M.
•Drilling experience in Gulf Coast region on land and inland barge rigs in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and offshore Mississippi Sound.
•Demonstrated Ability to solve problems which occur at the drilling site (Lost Circulation, Gas Kicks, Severe contamination, Stuck Pipe etc.)
•Ability to alternate methods of completing treatment tasks when set method was not viable.
•Trained in Ormsby Method of Solids Control by George Ormsby
•Carbonate Contamination in Drilling Fluids. Paper presented at Texaco Drilling Conference, Woodlands Conference Center, Houston, TX. 1983
•My assignment was the other land rig at Jefferson Island; not the rig that sank Lake Peigneur.
