I've been teaching since I was kid. My first paid teaching job was when I was 12. I taught private swimming lessons. I taught German to little kids when I was in High school. I taught group swimming when I was in college, and then began teaching fitness classes at the YMCA and in college dorms while an undergrad at UW Madison.
I taught yoga at the Lynda Mitchell Yoga studio in Bloomington, while attending grad school at IU. While working on the dissertation, I taught political science at DePauw University then Iowa State University and finally landed a tenure track job at Texas Southern in Houston. After I got tenure, I went to Bryn Mawr for training for women in higher ed administration. I decided I didn't want to apply for the chiar position at TSU. Shortly thereafter, I left my job at TSU and went back to my great love, yoga and yoga philosophy.
Today I am learning from the best and most senior teachers in the field. I have been taught by Geeta and B.K.S. Iyengar. I am scheduled to go to India for the month of June, 2009, to the Iyengar Institute for intensive practice and study. In the mean time, I study and practice for certifcation assessment in Iyengar Yoga.
I am a generalist and only qualififed to teach beginners at this point.
