November 2009 – Present (4 years 11 months) Alsip, IL
Responsible for the safe production of 160,000 TPY of machine coated and calendared No: 3, 4, 5, book, label, digital and special grades. This included all aspects of machine operations: Reporting, coater roll calibration, cost containment, crew and team development and operational improvements.
New grades: No: 3 coated, light and heavy weight coated / uncoated book grades, labels and digital paper.
Cost optimizing: Increased coater rolls lifetime on machine from 90 days to 150 days. Optimized rod diameters, which increased rods life, and improved paper quality and lowered gas and steam costs.
Runnability: Solved runnability problems and breaks in paper machine. Coordinated actions to improve dewatering in wet end for speed increase with heavy basis weight grades. Yearly average speed increased from 2650 fpm in 2009 to 2700 fpm in 2013. Also reduced the number of average breaks/day from 4.2 breaks/ day to 2.8 breaks/day during the same time period.
Production: production increased from 400 ton/day to 419 ton/day
