Patrick Arenz's Summary

Patrick Arenz is trial lawyer with significant experience in patent litigation and patent monetization. He is experienced in taking on the largest and most well-funded companies in the world, including consumer electronics companies like Apple, HTC, Toshiba, and Sony. With the help of Mr. Arenz’s representation, his clients have obtained licensing revenue before and after trial as compensation for widespread infringement by competitors and larger companies. Mr. Arenz also leverages this patent enforcement experience in his work for defendants in patent infringement cases, knowing intimately what the other side’s attorneys are planning and preparing at each stage of the litigation.

Mr. Arenz is experienced in courtrooms across the country, including patent-rich forums like the Eastern District of Texas and the Northern District of California. Mr. Arenz has handled direct and cross examinations of expert witnesses, including most recently when he presented a sophisticated patent damages theory predicated on conjoint analysis. He has also first and second-chaired bench trials on issues of laches and inequitable conduct. Mr. Arenz’s deep courtroom experience, along with his intimate understanding of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence, allow him to focus on the most important issues and disputes during discovery to efficiently and effectively prepare each case for trial, which ultimately leads to the best results for parties whether or not the case goes to verdict.

Some of Mr. Arenz’s trial experience also comes from representing those who cannot afford representation. Mr. Arenz, for instance, has handled various felony and misdemeanor-level criminal defense matters on a pro bono basis. He also tried a contested case against the United States government and won asylum for a woman facing death threats for her political activism if she was returned to Ethiopia.
