(Privately Held; Semiconductors industry)
July 2004 — Present (5 years 5 months)
Develop Systems and Software for client companies in the semiconductor equipment and other manufacturing industries. Travel to clients customer sites around the world to integrate client equipment in customer factories. Develop automation components for client manufacturing facilities. Create thermal models of client chambers for control system development. Worked with contract manufacturer to insure that client products were delivered complete and fully functional. Developed new capabilities on a client's legacy product using 20-year old technology. Created an E84 test product consisting of a microcontroller using a USB interface, along with laptop software for testing all aspects of the E84 interface.
(Semiconductors industry)
May 2007 — May 2009 (2 years 1 month)
Help with development and characterization of new process chamber in EES.
(Semiconductors industry)
1998 — 2004 (6 years )
Led the development of new type of Batch CVD equipment on short schedule and tight budget in a startup environment. System required high-power lamp heating system, high speed vacuum pumping systems, and a large, complicated gas delivery system, as well as wafer handling robotics. Worked with Process Engineering to create systems to fulfill process requirements. Owned the in-house tools in the Apps lab & continuously upgraded them to meet new process requirements. Conducted audits of manufacturing processes in order to improve delivered systems. Visited suppliers and customers to insure that Torrex delivered full solutions to customers.
(Sole Proprietorship; Myself Only; Semiconductors industry)
August 1993 — April 1998 (4 years 9 months)
Clients included Applied Materials, Silicon Valley Group, Mase Systems, Promis, SC Technology, Torrex Equipment, Genus. Developed the user interface for a complete product line, as well as the functional code. Created ethernet based HSMS protocol code for connecting equipment to the factory host. Developed embedded systems for IO and motion control in semiconductor equipment. Studied, understood, and enhanced legacy code where no documentation or original developers were available, extending the functionality and life of client's systems.
(Public Company; Computer Hardware industry)
September 1990 — August 1993 (3 years )
Managed department in development of test and manufacturing equipment for in-house use. Department included mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, and technicians. Created a streamlined configuration control procedure for in-house equipment. Department developed numerous systems which reduced the cost and improved the performance and reliability of Conner disk drives in a very fast-paced environment.
(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Semiconductors industry)
March 1987 — September 1990 (3 years 7 months)
Managed software engineering department for control of RTP equipment. Developed new architecture for production equipment & ported the software to the new platform. Improved wafer throughput by 25% through fine tuning of wafer motion. Visited customer sites to understand their needs and then implemented systems and software to fulfil them.
(Public Company; 201-500 employees; Defense & Space industry)
1984 — 1987 (3 years )
Managed department which developed software for test systems for satellite and missle components. Conducted and presented design reviews in military engineering environment. Insured that systems met their requirements. Supported contract negotiations with other contractors and the US Navy. Shortened test cycle for one product from one week down to half a day. Final products were installed in missles and were successful in the test flights.
(Semiconductors industry)
1977 — 1984 (7 years )
Developed systems for manufacturing and test of optoelectronic components. Designed complete fiber optics transmitter and receiver test system, both hardware and software development. Developed automated LED wafer test system which improved throughput by 80%. Developed special test systems for military/high-reliability parts which required testing at intervals and ongoing data collection and analysis.
(Public Company; AMD; Semiconductors industry)
1973 — 1977 (4 years )
Developed test fixtures and software for testing AMD analog devices using Teradyne J273 test system. Assembled and operated special test systems for characterizing the AMD process, including state of the art S-Parameter test system. Developed many special test programs to meet customer needs.
