Mathias Fleck’s Summary
Post-doctoral research associate in the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at Duke University.
I recently completed a PhD in the department of Psychology & Neuroscience at Duke, focusing on visual cognition. Specifically, I have been examining the cognitive demands involved in many real world tasks of perception and attention, such as searching an X-ray for a tumor or checking airplane luggage for dangerous items. My dissertation focuses on the influences of three factors: expectation (likelihood of finding what one is looking for), experience (influences of videogame expertise on visual cognition), and the environment of the search (multiple targets).
I have approached these questions with a background in computer game development and a fascination with converging internet technologies, and I hope to apply principles of attention/perception, human factors, and cognitive psychology more generally to a future position in software or internet development.
