Public Relations Specialist at O'Reilly Media
San Francisco Bay Area
I currently serve in a "catch-all" position at O'Reilly Media. While I enjoy this position and the "traffic-managing" that comes along with it, I really thrive in the creative and people-oriented tasks. I am involved with a lot of data-entry type jobs in my current position, but I occasionally get the opportunity to write press releases and correspond with authors or various media outlets, which I also enjoy.
Goals:
• To improve my writing abilities to encompass various genres including print newspaper, press releases, blogging, and technical writing
• To continue improving my editing skills and move into an area of technical editing as well as copy-editing and proofing for publications and the publishing industry
Abilities:
• Copy-editing and technical editing
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Firefox v.2.003, Apple Mail, Gmail, Google Calednars, and Groupwise E-mail
• Competent in Microsoft PowerPoint and FileMaker Pro 8
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, and Illustrator

I manage all of our relations with our 6 publishing partners and handle all of the public relations and distribution of their books. I also handle the PR work for about 1/3 of O'Reilly's books each year. I am responsible for author events and social networking, managing our Facebook community as well as the growing number of online followers on Twitter and our blog. In addition to many other responsibilities, I coordinate our Ignite site and work directly with the community leaders to organize their events and keep things running smoothly.
