Project safety consultant responsible for training other law enforcement agencies across the country in the Crime Free business program. I was responsible for training officers how to identify high risk businesses and conducting safety/prevention reviews of the business property. I was also responsible for training business owners about liability and safety concerns of their business.

I was involved in law enforcement from 1987 to 2011. I started my career in Oxnard in 1987 as a reserve officer. In 1989 I was hired as a full time Deputy Sheriff for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. I was hired by the Oxnard Police Department as a police officer in 1991. The positions I held were: Community Store Front Officer, Gang Unit Officer, Canine Handler, Burglary Detective, Crime Prevention Officer, and Crime Free Multi-Housing Coordinator. I developed an expertise in robbery/violence prevention for businesses, and lowering crime in rental housing communities.
I retired with a full service retirement 12-29-2011.

    I was part of a research group who studied the effectiveness of certain crime prevention practices in small businesses. The research was funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, N.I.O.S.H. The research pieces were conducted by researchers at the University of North Carolina and the University of Iowa.

    We organized the program components and then implemented the program components in several police departments including Oxnard California Police, San Ramon California Police Department, Las Vegas Police Department, Coralville Iowa, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City police departments.
    I helped train these agencies in the implementation of the program from the law enforcement agency perspective as an effective crime prevention program. I also led the program for the Oxnard Police Department. I also worked with insurance companies as it related to insurance policies and benefits for businesses, apartments and property management companies.

    There were many positive results of this research. The results benefited the law enforcement agencies in decreased calls for service. Business owners saw a reduction in criminal attacks on their properties.
    Insurance companies also pointed out possible benefits to both the insurance company and business owners who took part in the program.
    I also developed and expertise in apartment crime prevention.

    I am available for public speaking engagements, professional consulting, and property management training to all businesses, Law Enforcement Agencies, Insurance companies, and property management companies.
