Mark Tavern has worked in the entertainment industry for more than 15 years. He has broad experience with performing arts organizations and record companies in both the profit and the not-for-profit sectors.
Mark began his career in 1994 at Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, New York, where he rose to become Company Manager. In 1996, he moved to New York City to work for BMG Classics in A&R Administration, organizing recording projects for classical artists, soundtrack and Broadway cast albums. When BMG Classics later became part of the RCA Music Group, he was able to expand his experience to include rock and urban projects. In 2001, Mark moved to the RCA Victor Group, where he handled A&R for the jazz artists Dave Douglas and Eliane Elias, garnering the company a Grammy nomination for the Dave Douglas record, The Infinite.
Mark is currently Director, A&R Administration at the RCA/JIVE Label Group, where he plans recording sessions for such artists as D’Angelo, Mario, Monica, Daughtry, Whitney Houston, Daniel Merriweather and others. In addition, he works as a consultant to the website amytavern.com, developing sales and marketing and online/social media strategy.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from St. Lawrence University where he completed two majors: Music and Physics. He remains an active St. Lawrence alumnus, volunteering as a class fundraising Co-Chair and as a career mentor. He is also President of the Singing Saints Alumni Association, one of St. Lawrence’s first alumni affinity groups.
Mark is married to a graphic designer and is the father of a young daughter.
