Engagements included day-to-day counseling on matters regarding the full spectrum of benefits arrangements, including traditional and hybrid defined benefit plans, individually designed and prototype defined contribution plans, executive compensation arrangements such as severance plans and supplemental employee retirement plans, and welfare plans such as group medical, life and AD&D, severance plans and other similar arrangements.

- ERISA fiduciary counseling
- Designed domestic partner benefits for various benefits, including executive compensation arrangements subject to 409A
- represented clients on formal and informal regulatory inquiries
- regularly addressed qualification failures in tax-qualified retirement plans using the Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System or “EPCRS”
- assisted with the transition of defined benefit plan investments in anticipation of the application of the International Accounting Standards Board or “IASB” accounting rules
- deal counsel in a variety of transactions heavily driven by benefits issues
- technically advised on ERISA litigation including two reported cases with outcomes very favorable to the plan sponsor
- co-developed systems to divide stock options in marital dissolutions
- worked extensively with so-called “dual qualified” plans extended to US and Puerto Rico residents
