Maged N Kamel Boulos is Senior Lecturer in Health Informatics at the University of Plymouth, Devon, UK. He previously worked as Lecturer in Health Informatics at the University of Bath, UK, where he was instrumental in developing the online MSc programme in Healthcare Informatics, and worked before that at City University, London, UK, on M2DM, an EU-funded diabetes telematics project. As well as his medical degree and Master in Dermatology, he holds a Master in Medical Informatics from King's College, University of London, and a PhD in Measurement and Information in Medicine from City University, London, both in UK. He is well published on the topics of Web 2.0/social software/3-D virtual worlds, the Semantic Web and geographic information systems, including Web GIS, in health/healthcare. He is Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, Level 3 Member of UKCHIP, the UK Council for Health Informatics Professions, Senior Member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and of IEEE EMBS (Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society), and Member of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Open Access International Journal of Health Geographics http://ij-healthgeographics.com, and one of the Principal Investigators of the CAALYX EU-funded FP6 eHealth project http://caalyx.eu. He has undertaken consultancies/commissioned reviews and has been principal investigator on various activities funded by national and international bodies, including London School of Economics; SL Education UK (Sexual Health SIM in SL); KFSHRC, Jeddah; Qatar National Research Fund; Public Health Agency of Canada (funding one of his PhD students); World Health Organization EMRO; and European Commission. I have been responsible for the unit authoring and teaching for Remote Healthcare, Human Computer Interaction and Applied Research Methods (MSc), in addition to other miscellaneous teaching activities (face-to-face and online) and MSc/PhD project supervisions. I served on a number of committees including the University Computing Liaison Committee, School for Health Research Students Committee and Board of Studies, and the MSc Healthcare Informatics Board of Examiners and Programme Committee. Completed my ITDP-Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Programme (accredited by the Higher Education Academy) in 2004 while working there.
