I am a physicist (graduated at the University of Catania in 2004 Summa Cum Laude) currently working as a PhD student at the Astrophysics Sector at SISSA.
In my work I usually have to investigate a real Physical System by creating a mathematical model which is able to describe it.
At present I am mainly involved in solving system of partial differential equations in the field of MHD (magneto-hydro-dynamics), by means of numerical simulations. These studies are applied either to the study of the magnetic field in the interior of a PNS (proto - neutronstar) and to the accretion disks around compact objects. In order to solve these systems I use either public available codes (zeusmp) and codes written by myself.
I have some experience as an observer as well. More precisely I have been working in the Astrophysical Observatory in Catania. In that occasion I learned how to use a 90 cm telescope and how to reduce and analyse the data (with IRAF).
I am very attracted by the field of statistics and programming science as well.
Programming with Fortran90 (with MPI), MatLab, IDL, Mathematica, Maple
Data reduction with IRAF,
Latex,
Office,
MySQL, HTML and PHP

November 2005 — Present (4 years 2 months)
PhD student in the Astrophysics Sector.
Thesis mainly focused on two topics: (i) dynamo amplification of the magnetic field inside protoneutron stars and (ii) the magnetic field profile of accretion disc around magnetized neutron stars.
