As a freelancer, I've written news and features on a wide variety of homes, gardens and outdoor topics. With my breadth of editorial and photography skills, plus magazine contacts, I have heaps of useful expertise for clients to draw on.

I have 20 years experience in consumer and special interest magazines - having edited titles in home interest, photography and beauty markets. Most recently I edited Period Living magazine in the UK, but have also held a senior position at Garden Answers, Ideal Home and Homes & Ideas.
Currently I take on editing and writing commissions as well as production jobs at a day rate of £180 or by negotiation.

As Editor of Period Living I led an eight-strong team through a major relaunch, redefined the brand, devised a new, practical renovation section and created a design brief for a more classic, streamlined look. Centaur bought the title from EMAP in Feb 2006 and under this new regime I also managed to shave £10k off the monthly contributors' budget and rebuilt the team after radical restructuring - producing the magazine with half the staff. As a result of the redesign, we boosted sales by 9,750 readers month-on-month, revived the magazine's profile with advertisers and secured a top Centaur award.

August 2000 — February 2004 (3 years 7 months)
At Garden Answers magazine as Assistant Editor I wrote news and features, deputised for the editor and coached the team in their writing skills. My greatest achievement was commissioning and editing three issues in just eight weeks, as part of an ambitious pull-forward strategy during a magazine relaunch.

My career in photographic magazines began as a features writer on IPC's weekly Amateur Photographer where I worked my way up to edit the monthly Photo Technique for three years. I relaunched the magazine, recruited a new team, commissioned the best freelancers and saw the ABC rise 17%. I balanced the budgets, shaving £3k off the repro costs, won editorial awards and appeared on TV and radio promoting the magazine: I even found time to write a series of compact camera photography books.
