I was nominated by Tom Corbett, Governor of Pennsylvania and received confirmation from the Pennsylvania State Senate to serve on the Council of Trustees for Cheyney University. My term runs from 2014 (April) until 2020.
Pro Musica Studio is a music school providing private lessons to over 300 students per week. Founded in 1995, there are 15 teachers currently on staff who provide instruction in voice as well as brass, percussion, string and woodwind instruments. Guitar and piano lessons are also provided.
Working with the CCIU Admissions Specialist, I assist in promoting Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to high school students throughout the county. This is a parttime position.
My responsibilities in this role included all facets of campus-wide student enrollment including reenrollment and recruitment. I reported to the headmaster and worked closely with all members of the administrative team. I was also responsible for managing an office staff and a $1,900,000 financial aid budget.
For the years 1999 through 2002, I completed the unexpired term of my predecessor. Subsequently, I was elected to 2 terms of 4 years each. I chose not to run for re-election
As the Head Start supervisor, I assumed management responsibilities for 53 employees. Over 430 preschool children were enrolled. It was my duty to see that the program remained in compliance with Head Start performance standards as determined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I managed an annual budget that averaged $2,600,000.
I served as a commercial fire underwriter in the Ohio Regional Office for a few short months before being promoted to the personnel office. As a personnel specialist, I was engaged in all aspects of human resource management including performance evaluations, grievance procedures, recruitment and hiring/terminations. I transferred to the Pennsylvania Regional Office in April of 1991.
I was a music teacher/choir director at Central, Wilson, Roosevelt and Kennedy Jr. High Schools. I also taught at Gahanna-Lincoln H.S. during this timeframe.
Attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey for graduate studies in vocal pedagogy and choral conducting
