Kirsten Verdel’s Summary

In the past ten years I have gained experience in many fields:

- in politics as an elected member of the provincial parliament of South-Holland, and as a campaign manager in campaigns for elections on the local, provincial and national level in the Netherlands. I am currently active in the campaign team for the Democratic party (the Democratic National Committee) for the US presidential elections.

- in business as a longtime employee of internet provider XS4ALL, and as an intern for public affairs bureau European Public Policy Advisors (EPPA).

- in the media as a (freelance) journalist and political analist for national newspapers like De Volkskrant and het Financieele Dagblad, for (inter)national radio stations such as radio 1 (KRO) and VRT (Belgium), and for magazines like Intermediair, Lokaal Bestuur and EM.

- in the volunteer/ngo sector, by working as a volunteer in an orphanage in China for severely disabled children (for which I fundraised 23.000 USD for surgeries, equipment and education), in Sierra Leone, Venezuela and Colombia, and by teaching high school children about children's rights for UNICEF.

- in the public sector as a policy analist for the Dutch Ministry of Internal Affairs and as a researcher at Erasmus University.

After the US presidential elections, in November 2008, I would like to work for an NGO or for the United Nations (UNHCR, UNICEF, OCHA, UNDP or DPKO).
