Worked for many years as a behavioural psychologist and project manager with people with learning difficulties. Also studied management with the Chartered Management Institute. Retrained as a therapist and worked as a counsellor in General Practice for several years before creating and managing a county-wide Primary Care Counselling Service within the NHS. After a number of years as Service Manager, moved to Right Management to head up the clinical practice there. Am responsible for strategic management of the clinical aspects of our Employee Assistance and Wellbeing service as a member of the Leadership Team in the business.

I have a private consultancy practice, working with HR professionals and senior managers to overcome the obstacles to productive work. The emphasis is on individual cases rather than strategic thinking and is very much outcome-based.

I specialise in supporting HR professionals who are dealing with complex cases, applying analytical skills and helping them find creative solutions to otherwise-intractable problems. Individual behaviour management, absence, conflict and dysfunctional workplace relationships are amongst my areas of activity.

I have a passion for supporting mental health in the workplace and have worked with a large number of organisations from board to shop floor helping to create a better understanding and break down the barriers of stigma and discrimination that prevent effective working. You can see more here:

My goals are simply to do good things, do them well and make a difference to people's lives whilst maintaining a good balance in my own life

University of Exeter

B.A (Hons), Psychology

I graduated in 1978 (2.i) but remained for a further two years as a postgrad working towards a Ph.D but didn't write up because I was offered the job I wanted and, to be honest, I don't think the research was great.

Additional Info

  1. Interests

    • A Psychotherapist/Counsellor,
    • I spend much of my time working in the field of mental wellbeing and the obstacles to it. I enjoy photography. I tend to photograph things that are far away (landscapes) or very near - I think it is to do with maintaining a sense of perspective and place in the world.
