I joined Betfair.com, the leading Internet betting exchange, based in London, UK, in 2004 after more than six years with Amazon.com in the US, Netherlands and UK. For the first six months I worked as part of the Production Operations Support Team (combined network operations centre and technical service desk) supporting global network and systems operations, and bespoke software applications on a 24x7 shift basis. I implemented Betfair's first outsourced market operations centre in Germany, running real-time management software over a VPN.
In 2005 I was promoted to Network Operations Centre Manager overseeing a team of 12 engineers. I helped to design and implement major process improvements to reduce website downtime and non-emergency contacts.
Prior to joining Betfair, I worked for Amazon.com from 1998 in a variety of customer service and technical support roles in the US supporting the launch of Amazon.de and Amazon.co.uk. In 2000 I was selected to help establish a pan-European contact centre in The Hague, Netherlands.
In 2001 I moved to Amazon.co.uk as a build, QA and release engineer in the International Catalogue Software Development team where I was closely involved in the launches of Amazon.co.jp and Amazon.ca as well as a number of high-profile third-party sites.
