Katrina Perez’s Summary
I attended Michigan State University where I worked in the library’s Reference Department while obtaining a degree in International Studies. For a year after graduation, I worked as an Associate Editor for Pierian Press. In 1990, I went back to school for my MSLS degree at Wayne State University. I began my professional career as a Research Librarian for Keck Mahin & Cate, a law firm in Chicago. I stayed with KM&C for 4 years before taking a newly created position at the Highland Park Public Library: Electronic Resources Librarian. At HPPL I coordinated the development of a community WWW Home page, taught public internet classes, and assisted with the library’s CD-ROM network.
In 1996, I joined Gardner Carton & Douglas of Chicago as Information Technology Librarian. I stayed with Gardner through a merger in January 2007 with Drinker Biddle & Reath of Philadelphia. My position as the Library's Portal Content Coordinator entails instructing attorneys and staff on using the internet and firm intranet, and administering the library’s CD-ROM databases and other electronic resources.
I've been an active member of the Illinois Chapter of the Special Libraries Association since 1992, and am the current Chapter President. My first committee role was with the Vendor Relations Committee. I have been the Chair of the Web Page Committee and maintained the Chapter’s website at www.slaillinois.org.
