I have given up on the acting and may continue w/the stand-up. I haven't done the stand-up in around four months. I'm really torn as I truly enjoy it but to get ahead everyone has to pay to play. Anyone can go on stage @ The Icehouse in Pasadena if you're willing to put up $100 and try to get ten people to come in & pay $10 each & to mention that they're there for you. That way you can get your money back but you have to have your family & friends come out & pay up & also buy a couple of drinks that's also part of the cover. I've had the money on occasion but that's not how I want to make it. You can also pay to play @ The Comedy Store in West Hollywood. You have to guarantee that you can bring in five people that will pay a $5 cover and buy two drinks each in order to perform. You can pay for it and perform & tape it @ either venue which looks to the world as though you've been booked @ the best places but anyone can get booked @ the best places...Well, I only know of those two in particular. I do hear also that it's a great time @ The Icehouse too because the customers are truly there to have a good time. That's such fun when you're all in it together. I surely do enjoy doing stand-up but I don't ever want to pay to play. It just seems wrong.
So, for now I'm backing off. I don't have the "look" that anybody is looking for and I don't have the money for new headshots! Headshots, headshots, headshots! It's one scam after another for people trying to break into this entertainment busines. We love it so much that we actually buy into it. There're tons of wanna be has beens that haven't made it that advertise the talent/stage lessons for a ridiculous amount of money & they all have someone that can do really good headshots as you can be sure that if you take another acting class the instructor will look @ your headshot and of course recommend that you get new ones as the ones you have simply are not enough. And they can recommend someone....always.
I belong to SAG. I take classes and attend many lectures @ SAG. You can make connection anywhere you go. I also attend many movie screenings and learn from every movie or TV show I watch. I have varied interpersonal skills from my various things in my background already mentioned.
