(Educational Institution; 1001-5000 employees; Education Management industry)
August 1999 — Present (10 years)
The tasks of a "Data Janitor" such as myself somewhat resemble those of a school building custodian:
• Help Users Fiddle with Locker Combinations (i.e. access server space);
• Unclog the Plumbing (i.e. network infrastructure);
• Sweep the Halls (i.e. routine maintenance for lab machines);
• "Jiggle the Handles" (i.e. configure settings)
Plus provide Genial Reassuring Chit-Chat (front-line support)
(Non-Profit; Myself Only; Entertainment industry)
September 1996 — June 1997 (10 months)
The basic "Chief Cook and Bottle Washer" position typical of non-profit arts organizations that can only employ one person:
• processed mail;
• logged messages from the answering machine;
• designed flyers;
• wrote copy for letters;
• initiated some fund-raising;
• took a lead role in play selection which included contacting other theatres about original material they'd used;
• networked with Artistic Directors of other theatre groups;
• wrote (successful!) grant proposals;
• attended monthly Board meetings
• ...
I nearly got the Board to clarify the mission of the organization so that it was more than just pretty words.
