After completing a PhD in Physics at Cornell University in 1992, and spending a couple of years as a post-doctoral researcher at AT&T Bell Labs, I left physics and became a software developer in 1994. I worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co for two years (plus another as a consultant) writing software for financial derivative securities, then moved back to Seattle and worked at MathSoft for three years on statistical and image processing software.
After a short stint with a financial start-up, I started my own software consulting business in 2001, Poplar ProductivityWare (www.poplarware.com). I am currently concentrating on web programming with the open-source Drupal and WordPress packages, including site building, custom modules and plugins, and contributing to their open-source communities.
I've worked with many programming languages, including Fortran, Visual Basic, C/C++, Java, S-Plus, and Perl. Currently, I'm mostly using PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, JQuery, HTML, XML, XHTML, and CSS, since these are the languages used in Drupal and WordPress.
English is my first language; I am also fluent in Spanish, and speak/read passable French.
Please check out my company web site at www.poplarware.com for more detailed information.
