As a CASA, I am appointed by a judge to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the legal and social service system or remain in an inappropriate group or foster home. I stay with each case until it is closed, and the children are placed in a safe, permanent home.
• I visit the children I advocate for at least twice per month. I often observe visitations between the children and their parents, day care providers and counselors.
• I interview and keep in regular contact with the children’s social workers, day care providers, counselors, teachers, parents, extended family, foster family and any other individuals or agencies that are a part of the children’s lives.
• I appear in court at all hearings involving the children’s welfare, as their personal representative, and advocate for their best interest.
• I attend continuing education courses regarding the needs of foster children as well as volunteer for fund raising and program awareness activities.
