Emre is currently heading GROU.PS, the seed stage online social groupware startup with offices in Istanbul, Turkey and San Francisco, CA. GROU.PS is expected to reach the beta status in the first half of 2007 and make public announcements. Prior to founding GROU.PS, he was heading Turkix, which started as a hobby, but quickly became a well-known open source phenomenon in Turkey. Turkix produced a Windows-like Linux distribution for the Turkic desktop OS market. Turkix was sold bundled with Turkey's leading laptop producer Datron's mainstream models. He also served in thin client transformation of Tupras, one of Europe's biggest energy companies. Emre led the local efforts of Apache Software Foundation in Turkey and participated many international open source projects like KDE, Mandriva, Red Hat, RPM.
He is currently a writer/analyst at ReadWriteWeb, his focus areas are entrepreneurship, web 2.0, operating systems, webtops. He is also a technology evangelist at semantic search engine company, Hakia.
