Professional experience? Ten years in the military, two wars, and many positions of leadership (shop leader, team leader, squad leader, etc..).
Undergrad study at University of Arkansas at Monticello, University of Houston, University of Oregon, Portland State University.
Goal is to get into graduate school for psychology in one year. Currently in my spare time I am empircally and experientially investigating issues concerning PTSD and resilience. I am interested in reframing the approach to PTSD in the military from a Positive Psychology standpoint. I am interested in Community Psychology in that in trying to deal with individuals I am also dealing with communal meanings, organizational interests, family support, cultural ideas on masculinity/warrior, myth and meaning, time and place of conflict, politics and more.
I am toying with the idea of creating a non-profit organization that follows the Negativity Bias as a guiding principle in that if I can coordinate resources and give combat veterans, particularly those suffering from issues of guilt or having caused 'collateral damage' (the neutral words don't make it any easier to deal with) a means of doing 'good' that they might overcome the overriding negative affect they feel from actions done in war. It is an idea I am reading more on to check on the science behind it.
I also have a presentation that I made, as a soldier and psychologist in training, that talks about PTSD. I am constantly sending out information to groups/individuals to come and give this presentation free of charge and free of donation. The suicide rates for vets are too high for me to ignore and do nothing.
