Don Corbett’s Experience

  • Founder and Consultant

    Wot Media

    (Marketing and Advertising industry)

    August 2008February 2009 (7 months)

I specialise in consulting on online digital projects, mobile media campaigns and social network marketing. Leveraging on the influence of social networking sites and new media technologies I consult with companies about how they can best engage, influence and activate consumers with their brands using specialised applications, widgets, branded pages etc. To date I have worked with Toyota, Texaco, LearningIreland.ie, IATI and am currently consulting with a national broadcaster about their upcoming DAB launch campaigns.

  • Business Development / Sales and Marketing Manager

    Captive Audience Display Solutions

    (Marketing and Advertising industry)

    July 2007August 2008 (1 year 2 months)

A start up company which focused on delivering advertising and infotainment to a captive audience while they were refilling their cars with petrol.

I successfully negotiated a strategic partnership with Euronews thus making the screens more engaging for someone to watch.

I proposed a new business model for C-Ads which leveraged on the existing vendors’ relationships with their suppliers for a revenue share thereby creating a win-win situation for both parties. A model that would be easily transferable to any country CADS were planning to operate in.

I co-ordinated with the technical team to ensure smooth day-to-day operation of the company including technology audits on a monthly basis to identify any recurring problems with the system.

I generated new business from leading brands through cold calling and company presentations.

C-ADS listed on the PLUS market last June 2008 and have reassessed their business model with a view to International expansion.

  • Creative

    OwensDDB

    (Marketing and Advertising industry)

    June 2006July 2007 (1 year 2 months)

After finishing my Masters I wanted to capitalise on the study and got a job as a creative in Owens DDB one of Ireland's top advertising agencies. I worked on briefs for Carlsberg, Sony, VW and a number of other DDB clients, not to mention conceptualising new creative for new client pitches.

Some of my day to day included
Meeting with the account management team to discuss client requirements from the brief. Conducting research on the briefs and proposition to ascertain the best possible type of creative required.
In order to successfully achieve this I had to gain an understanding of the target market their aspirations and motivations.
Naturally for advertising I had to write clear, persuasive and original copy which communicated the brands new message. I commissioned photographers and artists to work on the creative and oversaw complete campaigns through conceptualisation to completion.

  • Junior Project Manager

    Allied Irish Bank

(Public Company; 10,001 or more employees; AIB; Banking industry)

    February 2005September 2005 (8 months)

On my return from Tokyo, I worked as a Junior project manager for AIBs Basel risk rating compliance programme.
    Some of my responsibilities included
Assisting the Programme Manager in his day to day operations.
Writing up agendas for a number of project managers prior to a Programme meeting.
Writing effective weekly status reports for the programme manager highlighting various aspects of the project, milestones achieved, to be achieved and deliverables required.
I left the job to go back to university to do a masters.

  • Founder

    eXpressions

    (Music industry)

    September 2002June 2004 (1 year 10 months)

I set up a company in Japan that would facilitate tribal marketing specifically to a music fan demographic. Basically I wanted to create a company whose purpose was to create events and promotions where brands could interact with their target demographic in a manner that was not intrusive yet gave the brand an opportunity to demonstrate their wares. Where consumers could relate their enjoyment of an event to favorable attitudes towards a brand, whilst at the same time the brand was not seen as 'selling out' but being in touch with their consumers lifestyle. Some of the clients I dealt with included Apple, Vodafone, Evian and Heineken.

  • Recruitment Consultant - Tokyo Investment Banking Team

    Michael Page International

(Public Company; 1001-5000 employees; MPI; Staffing and Recruiting industry)

    August 2001September 2002 (1 year 2 months)

First job out of college, I did a short stint as a recruitment consultant. I was on the Investment Banking team hunting candidates who were US educated but with native Japanese. This is where I cut my teeth and learned how to cold call effectively, make company presentations in Japanese and interview candidates effectively. I left recruitment because I wanted to set up my own event management company and also was not happy with the way the company operated.

  • Co-Founder

    Suplimax.com

(Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Health, Wellness and Fitness industry)

    January 1999March 2001 (2 years 3 months)

I co-founded Suplimax.com an internet site whose business was to sell and distribute health supplements to the Japanese market. Due to legalities in place by the Japanese government (which have since been removed) I was unable to continue with this business and had to stop trading. Incidentally on my return to Japan just 12 months later the supplements industry went through an incredible growth phase and is now a mulit-million dollar industry in Japan.
