    As part of a large investment and committment to R&D, Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) has founded the CHI Institute for Research & Innovation to expand clinical research activities and bring discovery efforts to the community hospitals in the network. The Center for Translational Research (CTR) is one of three centers under the Insititute. Located in the Baltimore, MD area, the CTR is the hub for widespread biospecimen collection from various CHI hospitals across the country, and uses these biospecimens for discovery in the molecular arena. The CTR, along with the Institute for Research & Innovation, is working towards incorporating efforts is many of the 70+ healthcare facilities under the CHI umbrella. The Institute also has two other centers - the Center for Healthcare Innovation (bringing novel technologies to CHI patients), and the Center for Clinical Research (streamlining trial implementation and bringing additional research opportunities to the community setting).
