David Bloom has more than two decades of experience in entertainment, technology and politics as a studio executive, business school administrator, communications consultant and journalist.

He most recently was associate dean and chief communications officer for the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.

He previously was principal at Words & Deeds, a Los Angeles-based boutique consultancy for media relations, communications and marketing with clients in entertainment and technology. He also worked as a member of the firm with Sitrick and Company, a crisis communications specialty firm.

Before that, he was vice president, corporate communications for famed film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. At MGM, he handled media and investor inquiries worldwide regarding the studio’s $4.9 billion acquisition by a Sony-led consortium of six companies. He had an integral role in worldwide anti-piracy efforts by the studio and by Hollywood’s trade group, the Motion Picture Association of America. He also oversaw, on behalf of MGM, media efforts by Movielink, the online movie-download service owned by MGM and four other studios.

He previously worked as a prominent journalist, most recently covering entertainment and technology issues for the Hollywood trade publication Variety and for technology investment magazine Red Herring.

Bloom previously worked at several metropolitan daily newspapers in California, Texas and Tennessee, writing about politics, entertainment, technology and business, while contributing freelance pieces to dozens of publications on a wide variety of topics, and winning several awards for investigative projects.
