24 beers on tap, a 100 year old building with exposed brick walls, a 15 foot tall mahogany back bar, super friendly bartenders, 6AM graduation day drink specials, great tri-tip sandwiches, open 364 days a year, an outdoor patio bar with Johnny & Colby playing every Friday Happy Hour......that was Mission Ale House! Originally purchased as Dot's Bar & Grill with a capacity of 42, the historic bar was expanded until it could hold 300 people legally (& about 450 if the fire marshall wasn't around!.) Sold in 2004, the bar has since changed names & is now just a great (yet sometimes hazy) memory for those that were lucky enough to be in downtown San Jose during the booming 90's.

In short, the Blue Chalk Cafe in Palo Alto was founded by a couple Stanford grads that had the right idea at the right time. From the day it opened in 1993 & for a few years after, the Blue Chalk bar scene was remarkable. It captured the magic & innocence of a pre-dot com Palo Alto that was energized by students who were more inclined to network at a bar than on a computer. It was an amazing time!
