    • No Limits Software
    • September 2014
    Authors: Dave Cole

This white paper discusses methods for replacing the “lather, rinse, repeat” manual entry of asset data
with auto-discovery tools to reduce the data collection time and cost, increase the accuracy of the data, and provide ongoing, automatic audits to verify the data.

    Authors: Dave Cole

Like solving a word problem in Algebra, you have understand the problem you're trying to solve. This white paper discusses the steps you need to take to define the problem you want a DCIM solution to solve. By knowing the problem, you are much more likely to choose a solution which meets your needs.

  • IT Asset Management: The Foundation for DCIM

    • Data Center Management Magazine
    • January 2014
    Authors: Dave Cole

While there is confusion over what set of functionality constitutes a DCIM solution, most DCIM vendors would agree that, at its heart, DCIM must begin with IT Asset Management (ITAM). The article discusses the importance of beginning with accurate asset information and the implementation of processes to ensure the data remains accurate. Important considerations include the cost and accuracy of the initial data collection, the continued accuracy of the asset data, support for change management, and the cost of auditing the data.

  • Pros and Cons of DCIM

    • Data Center Management Magazine
    • November 2013
    Authors: Dave Cole

DCIM can be a valuable tool in helping you to manage the data center. It is important that you take a critical eye when deciding to implement a DCIM solution. Don’t just look at the pros. You should look also at the carefully at the cons, many of which can be reduced, or even eliminated, by choosing the right DCIM solution to fit your needs and through proper preparation before the solution is implemented.

    Authors: Dave Cole

This white paper discusses the importance of automating the change management
process to detect changes made to the IT and facilities infrastructure which might
have been made outside of the standard procedures. The result will be higher
availability, less time spent analyzing outages, and less time spent on unplanned work.

  • The Real Cost of Manual Asset Management

    • No Limits Software
    • April 2011
    Authors: Dave Cole

What is often lost amidst the “bells and whistles” of the various asset management solutions is the true cost of managing these assets. People are often surprised to find that the cost of gathering the IT asset data is often as much as or even more than the cost of the management system itself. This white paper will attempt to put some real numbers around the cost of using manual data entry to maintain an accurate record of your IT assets.
