My interests can be broadly described as a desire to measure and interpret signals.
I am extremely fascinated with the idea of developing sensors, integrating sensors, and interpreting the signals that these sensors produce.
Some of my past hardware projects include: the development and implementation of two PC data acquisition boards (similar to sound cards, but running at 12MHz sampling rates), a patent on an analog to digital converter, the development and implementation of a fast analog to digital conversion board used in HP (now Agilent) spectrum analyzers, and the development and implementation of a timing board circuit (patent pending with SAIC) that synchronizes a multitude of sensors, such as: multiple LiDARs (laser radar), cameras, and INS (inertial navigation systems) sensors to produce real-time 3D registered data.
Some of my past software experience includes: the development of novel 2D image models for application in interpolation, denoising and compression; the development of three software programs for use in image processing applications: Visere (advanced, open source image viewer) and Algorithms (an open source image processing library) available at http://dmmd.net; and the development of 3D registration algorithms.
Through my company (DMMD.NET) we are currently working on developing a system that will make image processing easy. We are developing a platform that will allow engineers to easily add, test, and market new algorithms, without having to worry about the noisy details related to issues such as image formats, image display and other non-trivial, but essential details.
My ideal project is a project in sensory based embedded systems, where the requirement to understand hardware and software is closely coupled together with the use of sensors.
