Appalshop, founded in 1969, is a nonprofit multimedia arts and education center in Whitesburg, KY in the heart of central Appalachian Coal Fields. Appalshop operates in three major divisions - theater, film & TV, and community radio station WMMT. Appalshop includes the Appalachian Media Institute, a youth leadership program, and the media justice initiatives Thousand Kites and Community Media Institute. It depends upon grants and donations to do its work.
