After a very long time I find the government, media, industry & senior-managers (exactly in this order) growing up from their "urban obsession". That gives me a lot of hope about India's real potential, it's "people".

I have been extremely fortunate to have spent a very large part of my career span, in the hinterlands of this country. It was not easy & I did have my moments of agony while spending many a sleepless nights on rickety buses trudging through the mosquito infested countryside.

In hindsight though, it has been completely worth the while!
It is painful though, to discover that most of our metro-bred brethren have so little idea about our own country!

Most of the entrepreneurs / managers are still not convinced though. Like many of us, they are looking away from the malls & multiplexes, perhaps temporarily, simply because someone higher up is asking them to!

On the other hand honesty, sincerity, integrity or humility are still on the wane, among the self proclaimed professionals. We are still enamoured by what our counterparts did in the west, buoyed by their false sense of invincibility! In the process failing to see how "their" seemingly infallible business-models collectively nosedived thereafter.

I still find people going nuts over achieving a particular set of numbers & completely ignoring many other sets, bringing their organisations perilously close to disaster. Few are bothered as long as the victims are "others"!

I'm no Isinbayeva, so setting bars higher & higher is not what drives me. But an honest proposition, a genuine word of appreciation & words of real wisdom motivate me way more than a million bucks.

My goal is to use my experience, intellect and ideas to collaboratively make this world a much much better place for the next progeny, to inherit. If that pays for my daily bread too, wonderful :)
